***⚠️Safety Message***
We would like to reinforce safety when driving, especially this time of year. With leaves falling and the wet weather expected throughout this week, it presents a hazard to those driving. Take your time when traversing and remember, the speed limit reflects perfect weather conditions. Adjust your speed to the conditions. Avoid a serious accident and injury!
This is especially true on Bear Mountain Bridge Road. Recently there has been an uptick in MVAs on this roadway. While we do not speculate the factors behind the crash, that’s up to the Police Departments, we strongly reinforce safety messages towards driving to prevent an injury. Stay safe out there!

**Injured Hiker** At approximately 1520 hours today, Peekskill VAC was dispatched by 60 Control along with Cortlandt Peekskill Regional Paramedics and Continental Village Volunteer Fire Department to a trail leading to Anthony’s Nose for an injured hiker. Due to Continental Village Volunteer Fire Department also operating at a large brush fire in neighboring Putnam district, a special call was requested for Fort Montgomery Volunteer Fire Department to respond to the scene for assistance.

Especially take your time if you will be traveling on Bear Mt. Bridge Rd today! The curves on this roadway can be hazardous especially with snow on the ground!

March 25, 2021
At around 1800hrs, Peekskill VAC along with Continental Village Fire Department and 35M1 were dispatched by 60-Control to Anthony’s Nose for a “person fell off a cliff.”

A full crew on 75B1 responded upon dispatch. Once on scene, crew members meet a civilian who knew the patient’s location and was willing to help bring the crew to the victim. 75B1 requested Rehab 7506 to the scene to assist, and crew members started the hike up to the patient with the guidance of the civilian.

Crews found one victim about 150ft down a steep slope; once down to the victim, the crew began caring to the patient while Firefighters from Continental Village and Fort Montgomery Fire Departments utilized rope systems and a stokes basket to get the victim off the mountain.
Once off the mountain, the Victim was transported to an area trauma hospital for further care. Units were back in service around 2000hrs. Great job once again to everyone involved with another successful rescue.

While searching the apartment they found 1 victim. The victim was quickly brought out to EMS crews staging out front. **Person in distress/ Water Rescue- Unfounded**

Meanwhile the marine units from various departments as well as aviation units began the search in the area of the bridge both in water, on land and air for any signs of an individual in distress. After a lengthy search by departments, the only findings were individuals who were singing and praying along the shore on the Rockland County side. There were no signs of any individuals in distress in the area and all units returned to service.

**Last night at approximately 23:30 hours, Peekskill VAC was dispatched by 60 Control along with Cortlandt Peekskill Regional Paramedics, Continental Village Vol. Fire Department,
Yorktown Heights Volunteer FD, New York State Police and New York State Park Police for a rescue call at Bear Mountain Bridge. Ambulance 75B2 responded along with 7507/7513 upon dispatch and quickly arrived on scene.

A quick scene size up by emergency responders determined that the patient was about 50 yards under the bridge in a difficult area to access. Our EMS crew made their way down a steep and treacherous path along with firefighters to gain access to the patient.

Fire Command made the decision to request additional agencies to assist with a rope rescue plan due to the location of the patient. Both Fort Montgomery Fire Department and West Point Professional Firefighters were dispatched to the location to assist both Continental Village and Yorktown Firefighters.

While the fire departments were placing together a game plan to lower a firefighter down via rope, our EMS crew made patient contact and started stabilizing the patient. Once the patient was stabilized, the decision was made that EMS and Firefighters would carry the patient out along the path to the ambulance.

Crews made their way up the path and were able to extricate the patient from the woods about 35 minutes after dispatch. The patient was transported to a local trauma center for further evaluation.

During this emergency, Peekskill VAC had a second ambulance on standby covering the city in the event of any additional emergencies.
Thank you to all of our volunteers that responded last night as well as the volunteer firefighters. All departments had amazing coordination with each other to come up with a plan to rescue the injured person. The communities we reside in, are extremely lucky to have such dedicated and professional departments! Thank you to all departments for their assistance last night!

Once on scene EMS command requested a second ambulance to the scene and requested Mohegan VAC to have one ambulance respond to our headquarters and cover the City of Peekskill so our crews could work on scene of the fire.

This blaze was so intense and massive that embers from it were found throughout various areas of the city and relocation crews were kept busy running around the city answering many additional calls that came in as structure or brush fires. Fortunately, none of the additional reports of structure fires during this time were confirmed.

By the end of the standby, there were 20 departments on scene or relocation assignments and bringing well more than 100 firefighters out to fight the blaze.

**Last night at approximately 1835 hours, Peekskill VAC was dispatched by 60 Control along with Cortlandt Peekskill Paramedics and the Peekskill Fire Department for a MVA on the BMP at Highland Ave. Ambulance 75B3 responded with a full crew upon dispatch with 7512/7507. 7512 along with the Peekskill Police Department arrived in the area of initial dispatch and was unable to locate the MVA. Units then traveled the BMP until Rt 6 with no MVA found.
That is when units were able to obtain a better address and it was determined that the MVA was not on the BMP but Bear Mountain Bridge Road. Peekskill VAC units responded directly to that scene and Continental Village VFD was then dispatched to the scene since it was in the Town of Cortlandt.

39M1, 75B3 and 7512/7507 all arrived on location and assessed the scene. Initial size up determined that three vehicles were involved and an additional ambulance was needed. 75B2 responded upon dispatch for a second ambulance with a full Volunteer crew and arrived on location a short time after.

Due to the accident, Bear Mountain Bridge Rd was closed for a period as crews worked safely on scene to tend to injuries and clear the vehicles.
All Peekskill VAC units returned to service by 2000 hours.
